Toyota has issued a global voluntary recall for 7.43 million vehicles over a friction fault inside an electric window switch. The company says the part may emit smoke due to unevenly applied grease.
The recall applies to multiple models produced between 2005 and 2010. The company insists it knows of no collisions or injuries resulting from the fault. Some 200 Toyota owners in the US have reported seeing smoke coming from the driver’s window switch, with a further 39 cases in Japan.

In North America, the region where 2.47m vehicles are affected, the models to be recalled are the Yaris, Corolla, Matrix, Camry, RAV4, Highlander, Tundra and Sequoia as well as the Scion xB and xD.
In Japan, a total of 460,000 units of the the Vitz, Belta, Ractis, ist, Auris and Corolla Rumion are on Toyota’s recall list, while in Europe, some 1.39m Yaris, Corolla, Auris, Camry and RAV4 models are being recalled.
Australia is another affected market, with the company calling in both locally-built and imported models for checks. The relevant models there are the Corolla, Kluger, RAV4, Yaris, Aurion and Camry built between 2006 and 2010.
