Toyota expects global production to rise to at least 8m units in 2012, surpassing the mark for the first time in four years.
“Sources close to the matter” told Kyodo News the automaker has told major parts suppliers about the prospect that its global production, excluding subsidiaries Daihatsu and Hino, is likely to be between 8m and 8.4m units that year. Toyota also said it expects global vehicle sales to recover to 8m to 8.4m units.

The sources added Toyota’s production recovery would centre mainly on emerging economies, as it plans to open new plants in countries including China and Brazil and increase production capacity in Thailand and Argentina.
It plans to increase sales in India and other emerging markets as well as expand its range of hybrids in developed markets such as Japan, the United States and European countries.
Toyota has set both its global production and global sales targets for 2011 at 7.7m units, up slightly from this year.
