Even though the month of June saw them lose the top slot for best selling model in Japan to rival Honda Motor Co., Toyota cars were still a force to be reckoned with.
On the roster of the 10 best-selling passenger cars in Japan in June, excluding minivehicles, Toyota occupied the second through eighth slots, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said Thursday.

Four Toyota models had June sales of more than 10,000 units, led by the compact Vitz in second slot with sales of 14,184 units. The Estima minivan came in third place, the Corolla sedan in fourth and the bB compact passenger car in fifth.
In sixth place came Toyota’s Crown sedan, followed by its FunCargo compact wagon and the RAV4 compact sport-utility vehicle.
Honda came in first and ninth on the roster. Its Odyssey minivan snatched the top spot with monthly sales of 14,639 units, a hair’s breadth ahead of the Vitz, the best seller for the five months before June.
Honda’s Step WGN clinched the ninth slot, while the 10th place went to Nissan Motor Co.’s Cube miniwagon.
The highest slots reached by Mazda Motor Corp. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. were the 12th for the Demio compact sport-utility vehicle and the 20th for the Dion minivan.
