Toyota said its vehicle production subsidiary in Indonesia, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN), is to start producing engines for vehicles other than the IMV series at a new engine plant due to go online in the first half of 2016.
The site for the new plant, near TMMIN’s Karawang plants, was acquired last year.

The new engine plant will have annual capacity of 216,000 engines. Approximately JPY23bn is to be spent on the plant for which about 400 new employees are to be hired.
TMMIN currently produces engines for IMV series vehicles at its Plant 1 Sunter for export to other ASEAN countries, as well as to Latin America and Africa. Engines for standard passenger cars produced at the new plant will also be exported, thereby furthering Indonesia’s position as a key engine production and supply base.
