Toyota said it is recalling some 4,900 vehicles of its 2005 model Avalon sedans that were produced in US from December 2004 to February 2005.
The defect involves the steering column assembly ‘which may not have been welded correctly’ that could lead to the loss of vehicle steering control, said a spokeswoman for Toyota who declined to be identified.
There have been no reports of accidents or any casualty caused by the defect, she said.
For its part, Honda said it has recalled 14,984 vehicles of its 2005 model Element sports utility vehicle which had been produced between December 20, 2004 and April 29, 2005.
This is because of an incorrectly wired connector in the trailer harness that could cause a glitch in the taillights, said company spokeswoman Sachi Ito.
She said 14,967 vehicles were sold in the US and 17 units exported to Canada, but no accidents have been reported, according to AFX.
