The Toyota Group members aim to provide lower-cost service than dealerships for the many older cars on the road, Nikkei said.
Thailand and Indonesia were chosen because Japanese automakers hold a big share of local car markets. The initial locations will be existing garages, which will receive technical training and management support, the report said.
The report added that developing Asia has plenty of Japanese cars on the roads but relatively few places to service them. Last year, the trio of Toyota affiliates started a joint venture that now has directly run and certified garages in Myanmar and Cambodia under the name Pit & Go.
