Toyota’s Aqua [Prius C] hybrid was the best selling car in Japan for the third consecutive month in September with sales of roughly 27,000 units, sources told Kyodo News.

Sales of Honda’s redesigned Fit [Jazz] compact car, the most fuel efficient car in its class sold in Japan, apart from plug in hybrids, sold around 17,000 units, including the hybrid and petrol powered models, the report noted.

By 19 September, Honda had received over 45,000 orders for the Fit with 72% for the hybrid, the sources told Kyodo.

The Japan Automobile Dealers Association will officially announce the ranking on Friday.

Honda is planning to expand production of the Fit around November and sales may expand down the road.

Its fuel efficiency of 36.4km per litre beats the 35.4 km of the Aqua and 32.6 km of the Prius.
