The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association has tentatively picked Toyota Motor president Akio Toyoda, 55, as its next chairman.
His appointment will be confirmed at JAMA’s general meeting on 17 May, Jiji Press reported. Toyoda succeeds Nissan Motor COO Toshiyuki Shiga whose term has expired.
As JAMA chairman, Toyoda will be tasked to consider how Japanese automotive industries should cope with the tough business environment reflecting the yen’s sharp appreciation and promote dialogue with the government over drastic reforms of automobile-related taxes, the report said.
