Safety systems supplier Takata Corporation has set up a Hungarian subsidiary – Takata Safety Systems Hungary – to build a new factory in Miskolc, about 180km north east of Budapest.
The plant will produce airbags and airbag components for car manufacturers in Europe. It is scheduled to begin operations in October 2014 and will employ up to 1,000 people. Total spend for the plant will be EUR68.3m, claimed to be the largest by a Japanese company in the region.

Takata said the move would strengthen its supply structure within Europe amid growing demand for airbags and is additional to existing plants in central and eastern Europe.
Last August, it opened a plant in Ulyanovsk, Russia.
