BMW’s Rolls-Royce unit has announced the oepning of more retail presence in Japan and reported strong sales of its Phantom Series II in the country.

The move – a sign of healthy high-end luxury car sales in Japan – is perhaps surprising given the still-depressed state of the Japanese economy.

Rolls-Royce has opened increased retail space in Tokyo, added a new presence in Osaka and upgraded a showroom in Yokohama.

The CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Torsten Müller-Ötvös, visited both Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Tokyo and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Yokohama earlier this week, and also oversaw the opening of a new, expanded showroom at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Tokyo operated by Cornes Motors Ltd at Shiba, Minato-ku Tokyo.

Mr Kenzo Watari, CEO Cornes Motors Ltd. said: “We are delighted to welcome Mr Müller-Ötvös at the opening of this new facility. Investment in this space represents Cornes Motors Ltd’s confidence in the continuing success of the Rolls-Royce brand in Tokyo. In addition to sustained demand for Ghost and Ghost Extended Wheelbase, Tokyo customers embrace highly-Bespoke, pinnacle Phantom Series II family cars. This is reflected in the interest and orders that Phantom Series II has already generated.”

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Tokyo was the most successful dealership by sales volume in Asia-Pacific outside of Greater China in 2011.
