Ford has idled some assembly plants as it works to conserve parts following last month’s earthquake in Japan which disrupted the production and delivery of components.
The company’s Li Ho manufacturing plant in Taiwan – home to the Ford Escape, Ford Focus and Mazda 3 – was temporarily closed Monday for two weeks, Dow JOnes reported. The automaker also shut its South Africa assembly plant – which the Figo and other models – and its joint venture Changan Ford Mazda Automobile facility in China for a single week each.

The plants were slated to be idled later this year, but the company changed the schedule as a precautionary effort to conserve parts, Ford spokesman Todd Nissen told Dow Jones.
