Japanese carmakers will run their factories at weekends from July to September and halt them Thursdays and Fridays to counter an expected power shortages.
The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association said the plan was designed to prevent power consumption from peaking on the weekdays by shifting business days to the weekends when overall power demand tends to fall.
