The Japanese government aims to increase the number of environmentally friendly
cars on the road to more than 10 million by 2010 from some 600,000 at present,
according to a Kyoto News report.
An "action plan" announced on Tuesday also calls for the use of 50,000
fuel-cell cars, still a developing technology but expected to become mainstream
in the future, by fiscal 2010, the report added.
