Mazda has received 7,240 orders for its redesigned Premacy (5) MPV during its first month of sales in Japan – more than four times the monthly sales target of 1,800 units.

The models is known as the Mazda 5 in other markets, including the US, where it is the only minivan of its size on sale. The automaker said 80% of the Japanese orders have been for models with i-stop, a stop-start system standard on front-wheel drive 20E and 20S model grades.
The 5 makes its European debut at the Paris motor show in October with an upgraded MZ-CD 1.6 diesel engine and six-speed manual transmission. The engine delivers more power and torque with lower fuel consumption and emissions. The 3 will also be launched with the new diesel and gearbox.
A facelifted 2 (Demio) will be shown with minor styling changes, upgraded Euro V-compliant engines, upgraded chassis with improved ride comfort and a new automatic transmission option.
