Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation have signed a contract for a joint venture to design and make minicars for the Japanese market. The JV was part of an agreement signed in December 2010 to expand cooperation between the two companies.
The 50/50 JV with capital of JPY10m starts operations on 1 June.

Nissan currently gets sub-660cc vehicles for Japan’s unique Kei-class of cars made on an OEM basis by both MMC and Suzuki Motor.
A Nissan spokesman told Reuters the new joint venture would have no impact on the OEM deal with Suzuki.
