The car increases fuel economy by 30 percent over a 2.5-litre gasoline engine and cuts carbon-dioxide emissions by 20 percent, Nissan said.
Nissan also says that the 2.0-litre M9R engine has the power equivalency of a 3.5-litre V6 gasoline engine.
Diesel share of the car market in Japan is under 10% where diesel engines have an image problem.
Nissan says that its clean diesel engine design ’emphasises smooth, quiet operation, eliminating unpleasant noise and vibration associated with current diesel powerplants’.

Post New Long-Term Regulation is effective for new model vehicles beginning Oct. 2009, and for existing models and imported vehicles, starting Sept. 2010.
