Sales of new vehicles in Japan February fell 1.2% in February from a year earlier to 357,361 units for the second consecutive month of decline, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association reportedly said on Tuesday.

According to Kyodo News, aales of passenger cars increased 0.6% to 313,841 units, sales of trucks fell 12.3% to 42,108 units for the 11th straight monthly decline, while those of buses dropped 22.0% to 1,412 units.
By manufacturer, vehicle sales at scandal-tainted Mitsubishi Motors Corp. dropped 39.3% to 5,723 units while those at Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp., which was spun off from Mitsubishi Motors in January 2003, slumped 45.4% to 4,087 units, the report added.
Sales at Toyota Motor Corp. rose 3.0% to 164,028 units, while those at Nissan Motor Co. grew 6.5% to 80,905 units, Kyodo News said.
Sales of new minivehicles, or vehicles with engines of up to 660 cc, fell 0.9% to 171,967 units for the second straight month of drop, the Japan Mini Vehicles Association reportedly said.
