Mitsubishi has re-started production of its Outlander PHEV hybrid SUV, five months after the line was halted following a number of fires which were linked to faulty batteries.
The Outlander PHEV has two 60kW electric motors mounted in the front and rear of the car, as well as a 70kW, 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that serves as a generator for its lithium-ion batteries.
Its components are derived from Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV electric car. Mitsubishi has fitted transmission coolers following the overheating problem and also addressed issues involving some safety features.
