Mitsubishi Motors has donated JPY30m (US$367m) “for earthquake victims” in Japan.
“MMC would like to offer sincere condolences and sympathy to the victims of the Tohoku earthquake,” the automaker said in a statement. “We pray from the depth of our hearts that the devastated area attains recovery as soon as possible.

“As an additional support, MMC will supply vehicles to accommodate the circumstances and needs of local authorities in the area.
“In conjunction with MMC’s overseas distributors and business partners, we will try to find out the most efficient and optimum ways to render further assistance to those affected.”
Mitsubishi said earlier it had suspended production at plants located in Aichi, Gifu, and Okayama prefectures until today, Wednesday 16 March. The company said that none of the three facilities was damaged by the earthquake and tsunami. However, it has announced the production shutdown in order to determine the extent of the damage at its suppliers located in the affected areas.
The manufacturer also said it has secured sufficient components to resume production today. However, its production plans beyond that date would have to be reassessed.
