Temporarily halting lines at Nagoya in Okazaki, Aichi Prefecture, Mizushima in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture, and Pajero Manufacturing in Sakahogi, Gifu Prefecture, was in line with MMC’s policy of continuing a year-on-year cut of more than 60% in domestic production, the automaker told Kyodo News.
The Mizushima plant would stop making passenger cars and minivehicles for five and four days, respectively. Nagoya and Pajero Manufacturing would be closed for four and eight days. The decision means an increase in the shutdown of production lines from March.
Last month, the carmaker said it planned to build 330,000 fewer vehicles than it had initially planned for the 2008/9 business year or roughly equivalent to a third of its sales volume forecast.
President Osamu Masuko said it would take a few months to bring inventory levels down to appropriate levels.
