Agence France-Presse (AFP) said Makoto Ochi, 56, currently a Mitsubishi board member, will become chief executive of NedCar on June 30 as incumbent Gunter Butschek resigns at the end of his three-year term.
The announcement came about 13 months after US-German auto giant DaimlerChrysler decided against injecting fresh funds into Mitsubishi, AFP noted.
“NedCar forms a cornerstone in Mitsubishi Motors’ global production network and plays a vital role in the growth and expansion of the company’s operations in Europe,” the Japanese company reportedly said in a statement.
AFP said Mitsubishi Motors wholly owns NedCar, based in Born, which is the only large-scale manufacturer of passenger cars in the Netherlands – DaimlerChrysler has a 12.89% stake in Mitsubishi Motors.
