GS Yuasa, Mitsubishi Motors and two other companies have unveiled a method they have developed to recycle electric vehicle lithium ion batteries.
Engineers showed Kyodo News how they will power Mitsubishi Motors’ i-MiEV car through the new recycling method in a demonstration conducted at a charging station in the parking space of a Lawson convenience store in Kyoto City, Japan.

During the trial period that will last for about a year beginning Wednesday (26 Janauary), the companies will test the effectiveness of a system developed by GS Yuasa that uses a solar battery installed near the station to store power it generates in a used lithium ion battery for rapid refueling of i-MiEVs.
Consumers who own i-MiEVs will be allowed to recharge their cars at the Lawson store.
