Mazda is to start supplying Nissan with its recently redesigned Premacy (5) minivan in Japan from May this year.
The model was developed for global sale – as the 5 outside Japan – and is marketed in 60 countries around the world though the recent European launch surprisingly again omitted an automatic transmission option (introduced only when the previous generation was given a mid-life refresh). Cumulative production, since the model with rear side sliding doors replaced an earlier MPV called Premacy in most world markets, was 885,000 units from March 1999 to December 2010.

Under this new OEM agreement, Mazda will supply a “clearly differentiated” version of the Japan domestic market Premacy to Nissan for sale only in Japan. It already provides the Bongo van/truck to Nissan (sold as the Vanette van/truck), while Nissan supplies its AD/AD Expert to Mazda for sale as the Familia van. Mazda also buys in models from Suzuki
