The new model is a two-seat sports coupe based on Mazda’s popular MX-5/Miata roadster. The vehicle was designed by Mazda Engineering and Technology Co. Ltd, a 100% Mazda-owned subsidiary specialising in the development of limited production models.

During development of the vehicle’s closed body, engineers revised the body structure in order to enhance body rigidity. This was achieved with a total weight increase of only 10 kilogrammes.

The Roadster Coupe comes in four grades with a choice of three package types and production of Type A and Type E vehicles is limited to 200 units and 150 units, respectively.

The Roadster Coupe/Type S package has nose styling the same as the Roadster while the Type A gets an “authentic design reminiscent of traditional racing cars” and the Type E is “refined and elegant”, to quote the Mazda blurb.

Base models have a 1.6 litre 125PS engine and 5-speed manual transmission, the S & A have a 180PS 1.8-litre engine and six-speed manual and the Type E has a 154Ps 1.8 with four-speed automatic.
