Japan and the United States are close to agreeing to launch annual talks to
discuss issues related to the car and car parts industries following the expiration
of a bilateral trade accord at the end of last year, Kyoto News reported, citing
trade sources.

The U.S. government proposed the new talks after Japan rejected its call to
renew the 1995 bilateral trade agreement aimed at boosting sales of U.S.-made
cars and car parts in Japan, the sources said, according to Kyodo News.
