Isuzu plans to boost its market share in Indonesia with a full model change for the midsize truck it sells there, Japan’s Nikkei business daily reported.
The new midsize truck, due in 2015, will also be sold in other emerging markets. Due to poor road conditions, trucks for these markets require more maintenance and repairs than those used in Japan. Isuzu’s new model, currently under development, will have easily replaceable parts.

The company also plans to source more parts from China in an effort to reduce costs and enable the new truck’s price to be lowered by 20% compared with the current model.
This vehicle line is positioning Indonesia as Isuzu’s key location for making midsize and large trucks. It is building a new plant in the country which, in fiscal year 2015, will double truck output capacity there to more than 30,000 units annually.
Thailand will remain Isuzu’s production base for pickup trucks.
