Isuzu Motors is in discussion to increase the supply of truck parts to General Motors’ operations in South America, a report said today.

Japanese news agency Kyodo News quoted an Isuzu official saying that the plan was to increase its business in Latin America whilst helping out the embattled US automaker which is currently operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The Isuzu parts would be shipped to GM-operated facilities in Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela and fitted to mid-size trucks assembled locally.

In 2007, Isuzu and GM agreed to boost cooperation in their commercial vehicle businesses in South America.

The official added that Isuzu would partially stop supplying diesel engines to GM as the US carmaker is expected to pull out of the mid-size truck business in North America.
