Isuzu Motors confirmed today it would transfer production of pick-up trucks from Japan to Thailand.
Isuzu Thailand manager Goro Shintani told the website AutoAsia Online that Isuzu would invest nine billion baht ($US210 million) to relocate production from Japan and would build 145,000 export vehicles a year in Thailand.

Thailand is already home to Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Ford/Mazda pickup plants as well as a GM plant in Rayong which builds the Opel-designed Zafira minivan and the Alfa Romeo 156.
Shintani told AutoAsia Online that 50,000 pickups would be shipped to other markets fully built with the rest exported as assembly its from the Rayong plant.
AutoAsia Online said Isuzu#;s existing Thai pickup plant can build 120,000 a year for the home market but currently assembles only 80,000 to 90,000.
