Growth strategy is expected to be driven partly by demand in China and other fast-growing Asian markets, which can be served more effectively by consolidating Infiniti’s ‘global downstream functions’ in Hong Kong, the automaker said in a statement.

The new Infiniti HQ will share facilities with Nissan Global Company, (NGL), the new corporate entity.

“As Infiniti grows its presence in the global luxury markets of North America, Europe, China and South East Asia, we selected Hong Kong as the optimum location for our new headquarters,” said Andy Palmer, executive vice president of Nissan Motor.

“We see an opportunity to reinforce Asian hospitality within the Infiniti brand, distinct from both Nissan and our luxury competitors. We are proud to be the only automaker that will call Hong Kong home.”

Nissan’s new facility will start operations in April 2012.

Operations handled from Hong Kong will include parts of the automaker’s global marketing communications.

Nissan said Hong Kong’s status as an international media centre makes it a logical location for global marketing communications staff, particularly those serving key markets across China, India and the ASEAN region.

Corporate operations located in the city are expected to employ about 100 staff and will complement global headquarters functions in Yokohama, Japan.
