Sales of new cars, trucks and buses in Japan rose 15% year on year in July to 333,403 units for the 12th straight monthly increase due largely to the government’s incentives to purchase environmentally friendly vehicles, an industry body said on Monday.

The Japan Automobile Dealers Association said the tally was up 10.2% on the level in July 2008 before the global financial crisis.
Sales of passenger cars, excluding minivehicles, increased 15.5% to 307,397 units.
Truck sales gained 9.0% to 24,920 units and bus sales climbed 20.9% to 1,086 units.
As the government incentive programme is due to expire at the end of September, ”we are paying attention to last-minute demand and an expected fall in sales after October,” an association official told Kyodo News.
Toyota saw sales climb 19.1% to 161,444 units; Nissan Motor and Honda volume 2.3% and 14.5%, respectively, to 50,719 and 50,448 units.
The Japan Mini Vehicles Association said separately sales rose 8.6% to 153,203 units, the seventh straight month of growth, and above the 152,025 sold in July 2008.
