
Imported vehicle sales increased four percent to 18,890 units in August from
a year earlier, the second straight year-on-year gain, the Japan Automobile
Importers Association announced.
Imported car sales rose 4.6 percent to 18,261 vehicles, but imported truck
sales fell 9.1 percent to 628 vehicles, Only one foreign bus was sold in August.

Volkswagen rose 8.7 percent to 3,879 vehicles, while Mercedes-Benz was up 0.5
percent to 3,273 vehicles.
Of the imported vehicle sales, 17,861 were made by foreign manufacturers, up
6.4 percent.
The remaining 1,029 vehicles were made by Japanese manufacturers at overseas
plants, a 24.8 percent drop from last year.
