Sales of new imported vehicles in Japan fell 18.7% year on year last month to 18,698 units, including those made by Japanese automakers overseas, extending their losing streak to a 14th month, an industry body said.

Foreign-brand vehicle sales decreased 16.7% to 17,265 units, the Japan Automobile Importers Association told Kyodo News.
Some foreign brands scored sharp gains due to discount campaigns, including Fiat with sales expanding 97% to 522 units and Citroen with sales up 56.6% to 191 units.
Though its sales were down 9.8% to 3,761 units, Volkswagen remained the top-selling foreign brand, followed by BMW (3,456, down 19.3%), Mercedes-Benz (2,804, down 32.8%) and Audi (1,876, up 9.8%.
Chevrolet sales plunged 43.7% to 49 units but Cadillac was up 10.7% to 93 cars.
