The mid- and high-end models will sell for JPY1.72m and JPY2.1m, the sources told Kyodo News on condition of anonymity as the automaker will officially announce the prices at an exhibition in October.

Honda had been considering setting the price of the Fit Hybrid at around JPY1.5m so as not to affect sales of the conventional Fit subcompact and Insight hybrid vehicles priced from JPY1.2m and JPY1.89m.

The Fit Hybrid gets 30km per litre of petrol, the same as the Insight, but is more fuel-efficient in cities and other low speed driving environments, according to Honda officials.

The high-end model will come standard with a navigation system.
