The company said that hybrid sales hit the 300,000 mark earlier this month. It now sells hybrids in 40 countries around the world.
In more detail, for the nine years and three months since Honda debuted its first hybrid, the company said sales of the Civic Hybrid came to 255,249 units, those of the Accord Hybrid 28,471 units and those of the Insight 17,020 units.
Honda’s latest hybrid, the new Insight, is already on sale in Japan and here in the UK in April. It follows in the tracks of the Civic Hybrid, Civic IMA and first generation Insight – the world’s first mass production hybrid car, launched in 1999.
Over 10,000 Insight orders have been placed in Japan already; double the anticipated monthly order rate, and in just 11 days of going on sale, the company said.
Honda says it expects to sell around 200,000 Insights globally each year, with 30,000 being sold in Europe.
