Honda may develop a green, high-performance sports car as its flagship model according to company executives.

They told Kyodo News that the new sports car is likely to be a hybrid vehicle powered by both petrol and electricity, although the company is also studying the possibility of developing a fuel cell or electric car.

The new vehicle is expected to debut in three to four years’ time at the earliest, Kyodo added.

Honda halted development of a successor to its high-end NSX sports car due to weakened demand for motor vehicles during the global financial crisis. However it  has been encouraged by improving earnings and strong demand for the CR-Z sports car.
