Honda has revealed the fifth generation Step WGN. One of the most noteworthy features is a so-called ‘Waku Waku’ tailgate.

The idea behind the new tailgate is to have an integrated door which opens to the side. This door enables third-row passengers to get in and out of the car without opening the entire tailgate, also making it easier to load and unload cargo. It also allows the boot to be accessed in parking spaces where there is no room for a top-hinged tailgate to be raised.

The seven-seater Step WGN has a third-row Magic Seat, which as well as splitting 60-40, can be stored under the floor.

Honda’s Sayama plant builds the new model. It replaces a minivan of the same name, which was in production for six years. The Step WGN is sold mainly in Japan, where it competes with the Nissan Serena as well as the Toyota Noah and Toyota Voxy.
