Honda Motor Co has reported a year-on-year increase in domestic first half production for the first time in four years, whilst production outside Japan grew for the first time in two, including all-time record production in Asia and China for the first half of a fiscal year.
The company said that worldwide production experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in two years.
Japanese production grew 23% to 486,496 units in the six months, with production outside of Japan reaching 1,321,040 units, up 20.5%. Total worldwide production reached 1,807,536 units, up 21.3%.
In terms of sales, the domestic market experienced a year-on-year increase for the third consecutive year (since the fiscal year ended March 31, 2009). Total Honda brand sales hit 341,978 units, up 16.1%.
Fit was the Japanese market’s second best-selling car among new vehicle registrations for the first half of the current fiscal year, with sales of 90,074 units. Freed was the industry’s fifth best-selling car with sales of 51,075 units. Step WGN was the industry’s seventh best-selling car with sales of 43,335 units.
Total exports from Japan for the first half of the current fiscal year experienced a year-on-year increase for the first time in three years, up 44% to 165,243 units.
