Honda Motor is recalling its redesigned Fit [Jazz] hybrid for the fifth time in less than a year in Japan, issuing a recall of 425,825 cars on Thursday (23 October) due to two defects.

Apologising for the repeated repairs, Honda told Reuters CEO Takanobu Ito and other executives would reduce their salary by 10% to 20% for three months, and assign an executive to oversee quality improvements.

The latest recall, which covers some Fit and its Vezel [HR-V] hybrid spin-off, as well as some petrol Fits and N-WGN models, would cost an estimated JPY5.7bn ($US53m), a spokeswoman told the news agency.

The cost of the five recalls now totals JPY16.5bn yen but has little impact on Honda’s earnings, the report added.
