Honda is recalling some 686,000 Fit [Jazz] and City compact cars built between 2002 and 2008 and sold in the Americas, Africa and Asia, but not Japan, to fix a faulty power window switch.

This is the second recall for these models; the previous one was three years ago.

Water can get into the switch causing a short circuit. In the previous recall, the switch cover was replaced but this time Honda says that it will take additional waterproofing measures.

In India, the recall affects some 42,670 City models built in 2007 and 2008.

Meanwhile, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its website at the weekend that it is investigating a potential braking issue with Honda’s Odyssey minivan/people carrier that could cause a vehicle to brake without the driver touching the brake pedal.

The agency says it has received 22 complaints alleging incidents of unexpected braking, including some complaints in which the car suddenly brakes by itself while the driver is accelerating, causing the car speed to quickly fall by as much as 30mph.

The problem is thought to be related to the car’s stability assist system which will automatically brake the vehicle if the driver is going too fast in sharp bends or when accelerating on loose surfaces.

In March, Honda recalled 250,000 vehicles globally because of a similar problem. Most of those vehicles were made between 2004 and 2005.
