The daily output at the plant will fall to 500 units from the current 650 units during the period, the company told Kyodo News.

”We need to maintain inventories at the right level, given uncertainty over the future course of gasoline prices,” a company official reportedly said.

Kyodo noted that large vehicle sales in the US have been stagnant amid high crude oil prices while sales of fuel-efficient compact cars have been brisk.

The Alabama factory has been producing large vehicles such as the Pilot sport utility vehicle and Odyssey minivan, the report noted.
