Sales of used vehicles in Japan for the January-June period were down 0.9 percent
on the year before to 2,885,631 units, Kyoto News reported, citing the Japan Automobile
Dealers Association.

This was the first fall in two years and was due to declining demand for smaller
cars, the report added.

Kyoto News said the stagnant H1 used car sales contrasted with sales of new
vehicles, which rose for the second consecutive year to 2,137,140 units, an
increase of 1.1 percent.

The rise was partly attributable to a spate of new vehicle introductions, JAMA
said.
