Honda is delaying the start of sales of its redesigned Legend sedan in order to carry out additional checks on its radar safety system and hybrid powertrain.

Aware it has been suffering increasing recall issues on a number of models, Honda has moved the sale date for the Legend in Japan from 22 January to 20 February – the second delay to intiial plans to launch late in 2014.

Over the past few months, Honda has replaced faulty Takata air bags in millions of its vehicles while also addressing quality problems with the Fit [Jazz] compact and its Vezel variant.

Recurring recalls led to a cut to its fiscal year profit forecast in October.

President Takanobu Ito urged employees to go “back to basics” during a speech at a company event in Japan.

He has already taken a 20% pay cut for three months.
