Ford is considering selling part of its 33.4% stake in Mazda Motor Corporation, Japanese media have reported.

Both the Nikkei business daily and broadcaster NHK said Ford was close to selling most of its stake while NHK also said the US automaker wanted to shed a 20% slice.


Ford reportedly said there had been no change in its tie-up with Mazda while the Japanese firm reportedly said in a statement: “Nothing has been decided.”


The Nikkei said trading house Sumitomo [involved for decades in some of Mazda’s overseas operations] and Tata Motors were potential buyers of the shares and the two would continue their vehicle production partnerships [in countries including the US, Thailand and China] after any sale.
