Japan’s carmakers said that their combined domestic production in February fell 15.4% from the same month a year ago to 767,335 units because of slow domestic sales and exports.
Six of the eight manufacturers saw domestic output fall. Honda reported a 47.9% plunge to 60,392 units, Nissan fell 31.4% to 76,631 and Toyota was 13.2% down to 300,652 units.

However, Mazda said its domestic output jumped 19.6% to 84,035 units and Subaru maker Fuji Heavy Industries was also up 5.2% to 52,086.
The eight automakers’ overseas output in the month fell 8.6% to 1,257,651 units with Mazda down 43.7%, Nissan 14.1% and Toyota 11.8%. Honda and Mitsubishi reported overseas increases at 28.9% and 6.8% respectively.
The eight companies’ global output declined 11.3% to 2,024,986 units. Nissan posted the largest decline at 18.4% while Toyota fell 12.4%. Only Mitsubishi Motors and Fuji Heavy reported global production increases.
