The car, which was previewed as the XL-C at the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show, is based on the sixth generation Mira and its unique, ‘cute’ contains more than a hint of 1960s Mini.

With a height of 1515 mm, it is taller than the Mira and has a bit more interior space.

The Mira Gino has a 58 bhp 3-cylinder 660 cc engine and a four-speed automatic gearbox and, like many Japanese-market cars, is offered with both two- and four-wheel drive, the latter appealing to buyers in the country’s snowy mountainous regions.

Equipment includes automatic air conditioning, pollen filter and a special windscreen which filters out damaging sun rays.
