Japanese new vehicle sales have fallen for the 16th month in a row, according to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association.

Sales of new vehicles, excluding mini-vehicles, fell by 6.2% in October compared to a year ago, to 263,882 units, reported XFN-Asia.
Passenger cars accounted for 221,839 units, down 7.2% compared to last year. Truck sales were down 0.6% to 41,002 units and bus sales down 8.3% to 1,041 units.
In contrast, sales of mini-vehicles have risen, as consumers switch to more fuel efficient vehicles in response to rising petrol prices, XFN-Asia said.
The Japan Mini-vehicle Assocation reported a 1.2% increase in sales to 147,848 units. This was the 10th consecutive monthly increase.

By GlobalDataAll major manufacturers saw sales of standard passenger cars fall. Toyota sales fell 6.6% to 126,217 vehicles, while Nissan sales fell 8.2% 39,454, Honda sales fell 8.7% to 32,396 units and Mitsubishi sales fell 10.1% to 5,285. Mazda and Fuji recorded the biggest declines of 10.1% and 22.1% respectively.
Truck results were more mixed. Isuzu sales were flat at 5,924 units, while Mitsubishi Fuso sales were up a staggering 82.5% to 5,717 units. Sales at Nissan Diesel were down 6% and at Hino sales fell 23%.
The biggest beneficiary of the increase in mini-vehicle sales was Mitsubishi, whose sales were up 43.3% to 12,869 units. Suzuki sales were down 9.3% to 44,355 and Daihatsu sales fell 4.8% to 46,440.
