Following an explosion in a 2003 model year subcompact model in Japan in November, Toyota has recalled 185,000 vehicles across 19 model lines in Japan, and 5,000 vehicles in China.
Reuters reported the recall covers vehicles of the same model year and equipped with the same type of inflator as the Will Cypha car that exploded. These inflators were manufactured at Takata’s Monclova Mexico factory.

The vehicles affected by the recall were made between September 2002 and December 2003. Toyota so far has not received any reports of injuries or deaths due to the problem.
The company will replace front passenger side air bag inflators in the recalled vehicles and, if a replacement is not immediately available, Toyota will disable the air bag system and warn owners against allowing the passenger seat to be used.
