The first half of 2006 proved to be a mixed period for Japan’s automakers in overseas markets. Three of the top five, Toyota, Honda and Mazda, reported growth in overseas output January to June. However, Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors both said overseas production fell.

But, in exports, only Nissan Motor reported a fall.


As just-auto reported yesterday, Toyota saw its first-half overseas output grow 12.9% over the same period last year to 1,964,374 units. Honda, meanwhile, reported that its overseas output rose 8.5% to 1,170,601 units. Mazda saw overseas production leap 25.7% to 165,687 units.


Meanwhile, Nissan Motor said production overseas fell 2.6% to 1,016,263 units. Mitsubishi Motors reported a 16.7% plummet to 295,089 units.
 
Nissan saw exports fall too, by 7.5%. However, its rivals fared better with Toyota’s exports up 18.6%; Honda reporting a 11.3% rise; Mazda turning in growth of 23.2% and Mitsubishi reporting a leap of 22.7%.
