With the launch of two formerly delayed models, Honda is signaling that its Japanese plants are beginning to return to normal. The new Fit Shuttle, which is an additional model for the home market, was launched earlier on 16 June, along with the Fit Shuttle Hybrid, which has the same powertrain as the existing Fit or Jazz Hybrid.

These new compact minivans are expected to be sold mostly in Japan, and apart from powertrains and minor exterior differences such as the grille and headlights, are more or less identical.

The Fit Shuttle, which is powered by a 1.5-litre I4 petrol engine, is priced from JPY 1,610,000 (EUR 14,119 or USD 19,936), while the Fit Shuttle Hybrid, which has a 1.3-litre petrol engine plus an electric motor, starts at JPY 1,810,000 (EUR 15,874 or USD 22,415).

The cars use the same Global A platform as the Fit/Jazz. Front-wheel drive variants have a 94-litre bay in the boot floor to hide items from view, while in all-wheel drive cars, this is reduced to 50 litres.

While there was no hybrid variant of the Honda Airwave, a small minivan which went out of production in Japan during 2010, the Fit Shuttle can be thought of as the effective replacement for this vehicle.
