Until now, production of MTs, the company’s core product, has been carried out at the headquarters plant but the facilities have become too cramped to handle an expansion in orders received, the company said in a statement.

Therefore, a new plant is being built in nearby Kira-cho to complement production as the second Japanese manufacturing base. The company will also reorganise its production system at both plants and increase output.

A ground-breaking ceremony for the new plant was held on Thursday (1 March). Construction is scheduled to end next January.

The company’s Japanese production capacity is projected to increase by about 50% in 2010 compared with 1.6m units (including transfers) now.
